removing something from the crop

Postby birdygal on Fri Jan 01, 2010 11:35 am

I was trimming my birds beak when a piece broke off and my cockatoo swallowed it. I imagine I will have to carry my bird to a vet to get it removed? Does anyone know what the procedure will be. I can't imagine the bird being able to digest it

If it's just a small piece, it will pass through.

Look around, chances are the bird didn't swallow it, more than likely just placed it behind their tongue. Birds won't put anything in their crop that is not pulverized and able to pass through the small passageway into the crop.

I would bet your bird is just playing a little game with you. Hide and seek sort of.

If it is big enough to feel it, and you are sure it is there, then by all means take the bird to a vet
