She is GONE!! OT

I know this is a bird board but many of you have other pets too..
Here is a bit of the story ..
We have 3 birds and had 2 cats . I know I am missing parts of it as I sit here in tears trying to see what I did wrong ..
about 2 months ago my little kitty stopped eating , so we went and got her new foods .. She was still eating her canned foods and just decided she didn't like her cereal . So we started to feed her a different food that she went nuts for ..clearing out a new bag in under a week.. She then started a few weeks later having the poos , so I changed her food again , all the while she was being very active and playful ... Then over the weekend she started having the runs , and on Sunday she got worse we went through 60LBS of litter ... But we figured that on Monday if it did not start to look better we were making a vet appointment... Monday came and she was not doing much better but she remained active . We took her to the vet and they diagnosed her with irritable bowel syndrome . They put her on steroids , and much to her protest we were to give her a dose 2Xs a day for a week , which we did , her blood work came back clear and they stuck with that diagnosis .. Fast forward to Sunday just past , she had a bit of weird breathing after her meds but settled down shortly there after ... Monday came and her daddy brought her down stairs to take her meds she was really now breathing funky ,, so I called the vet I explained that she was having issues and did I get it into her lungs ? She said it was not likely but to wait a bit to see...So we reluctantly ran some errands and returned she was no better and drooling at this point so I called the vet and said she needs the DR . they ask could I wait till the am to do the appointment I said NO today ! , So we went in and the vet saw her and said "lung cancer" Slap right across the face , they took her in for an x-ray and came back with the diagnosis in stone :( I lost it She lost her battle a few minutes later when we said our good byes and he injected her . I just can not get that image out of my head .. I have not eaten since Sunday , I can not sleep , by all accounts I am a MESS ..
She never bothered the birds never even looked at them unless they had something she wanted , then she would wait for them to drop it and go get it ! ...She was my lil girl for 15 years and I miss her soooo much Bye Sadie , Momma loves you and misses you till we meet at rainbow bridge , please wait for me I LOVE YOU SO MUCH LIL ONE  Image

I lost my cat to lung cancer about 15 years ago. I was a smoker. From diagnosis to death was 3 weeks. I vowed then that I would never bring another animal into my home as long as I smoked. I quit in 1998 and one year later, I was given my first parrot, a C2 Sugar. She died 2 & 1/2 years later from ingesting plastic on a toy.

It is really tough losing one of our animals because they are such a huge part of the family.

I am so very, very sorry for your loss.

No one and I mean no one is allowed to smoke near our guys at all! we just do NOT allow that no ifs ands or BUTTS .. there is no reason that anyone would need a smoke in my house or cars with them! none

You didn't do anything wrong. Sometimes things happen and there is no explanation. Are you happy with your vet? I don't think they seemed too compassionate. Maybe a new vet is in order after you have had time to grieve.

Thank you for your words of compassion .
I do like him but he has his quarks .. He can sometimes (actually most times) come off brass ..
He is the only one in a 65-75 mile radius to do birds .. and our guys do not do well with even short trips ..
He knows that I know when it is bad I will DEMAND to be seen .. and that I am one of the few that doesn't care if he gets an attitude with me as I can return it just as bad ...
He is compassionate when it comes to death tho ... He saw me grieving and puking my guts out as I had to make the choice and he knew . I could see the humanity in his eyes , the compassion and the care of how hard it was to let her go ! At times I do hate him and can NOT stand him but it as times like this where he is actually human ... The vets around here in a small town are very limited and they know that so they can be crappy at times .. Like when I had my abdominal surgery , and I had a bird that needed taken in to be seen , I could only get a ride one time and not later , he demanded that I drop them off and come back .. I refused and treated my self not the smartest but the most practical ... He does have a HUGE practice that is immensely busy so he does this with birds as well as some other critters , they try to admit them for the day to observe them and watch them (which doesn't work for our guys as they clam up ) There are times that I do not like him at all actually most times but he is a decent vet and one of the few that has on call as well as trained in birds with their staff .. and certified .. Some times we just have to stick with what we have ...I guess I kind of equate it to this , just cause a car gets a couple flats doesn't mean you trade it in ... I know that seems snippy but I can not trade in a vet that is not "perfect" to drive to find one that will still have qualities that I don't like .. when there isn't one for miles (literally )

What a beautiful cat! I'm so very sorry for your loss! Having just lost our little budgie, I know how hard it is to lose one of these precious little creatures. I've never heard of lung cancer in a cat. I can tell she was loved and had a wonderful life with you for 15 years. My thoughts and prayers are with you..
