Mushrooms?

Postby Maija Thorstrom on Mon Nov 17, 2008 2:37 pm

I love fresh mushrooms. Does anyone know if they're good for parrots? Would they like them? I can't remember seeing them on any of the lists of good or bad foods for birds.

Thanks!

I haven't heard that they are dangerous. But none of my birds would touch them raw. They might have a nibble of a cooked one if they are sharing some people food, but that would be about it.

Nodding agreement with Patti here. IMO we need to maximize the nutrition in every bite our captive birds eat. Although mushrooms might not HURT them, they contain no nutritional value that will do the birds any good. Yet they'll take up space in the crop that a more nutritious food might have gone into instead. So, I would never offer them to my birds.

I have had this same question because all the time that I am cutting myshrooms to cook Rosie tried to attack them, she always wants them so badly.

I asked one of the dr's that she seen and he said he didn't see why she couldn't have them and then in cockatiel chat a couple of people said that they weren't good for them so that kinda scared me into not letting her have them. I try to be safer than sorry when I hear anything about it being bad. I believe that it was mentioned that it was bad because it was a fungi.. :?:
