Newbie to IRN

Postby jthiel on Thu Feb 11, 2010 10:11 pm

hello,
i am new here and bought a pair of silver IRN about a month ago. i think they are such cool birds, though mine are not tame.
i like how eager they are to try new foods and stuff. any suggestions on new foods to try?
i hope to some day get a baby from them that i can hand tame and teach to talk.
this is a nice forum with lots of info but not much activity. are IRN owners few and far between?
if so why? i actually never heard of them myself till i was on "youtube" doing a search on talking birds. i could listen to them all day.
but the IRNs had the absolute cutest voices ever! while mine don't talk, their natural voice is pretty neat. and they come up with some cute noises too. yeah their alarm call is hard on the ears, but its only once in a while they do that. overall they are pretty quiet.
its my parakeets that chatter and make noise all day long.
anyways, nice to be here.

I have a single IRN. My hen will eat most anything I put in her cage, just be sure to double check what is safe for them to eat.
Apples, bananas, pasta, and nuts are some of the favorites here.

    thanks for the tips Christie,
so far they like corn, grapes, wheat pita with a bit of peanutbutter, millet of course, some peas.
tried red pepper, apple, carrots, pasta, pear, egg, melon, broccoli and some dried fruits, so far with no good results. they like to crack peanut shells but discard the peanut.
most of the stuff gets discarded rather quickly but i put paper down below their dish so they can pick up their discards and by the end of the day they paper is pretty cleaned off, except for the red peppers, crackers, and broccoli.
    haven't tried banana yet
he is very alert to whatever i am doing at the table so i usually let him try a piece of whatever i have.

    your birds are BEAUTIFUL!!!
