Taking Your Amazon on Vacations

Postby Mumbles on Thu Aug 28, 2008 2:29 pm

We just got back from a 2 week vacation in the motorhome. Total trip was 2500 miles. We always take our Yellow Nape with us because he gets so pissed if his daddy leaves him more than 2 days.

Our 2 DYH's are happy with our son and his girlfriend watching them. They are also afraid of the nape :D .

Chuck (the nape) has the biggest cage that would fit through the motorhome door which is buckled into a seat and also secured so it can't tip right behind the passenger seat. His rollie cart (that's what we call it) fits perfectly between the driver and passenger seat, so he can climb from his cage to me to rollie cart to daddy and back anytime.

He loves looking out the window and burping at all the birds he see in the sky and it's funny to watch the people looking to see the parrot in the motorhome.

Just wondering if anyone else takes their birds with them.

I took Kia on vacation once to North Carolina, from PA. It was a nice trip and I think she had a good time. Though...she does tend to get car sick, so I had three sides of the cage covered, with the side facing me open. We stopped often and I would take her out on the grass (in the cage) and we'd eat an egg or some other yummy snack.

I would LOVE to have a motorhome to take her in. Or even take her to a pet friendly hotel for a night or two. It was fun having her and I think she would really enjoy it.

We are lucky that the motorhome is my folks and they even bought this one with where to put Chuck in mind. How is that for a spoiled bird?

We have never had a problem taking Chuck to any motel/hotel and he has been to Florida and back many times and also Knoxville TN (2 sons live there) and back many times before folks got the motorhome.
