Orange wing amazon owners

I am considering adding a OW to my flock.
I would like to hear from some of you about your OW
pro's con's.
I have always like the looks of these little guys, and what info I can find on them is good.
My flock consist of BH caique, CAG, Black Cap Lory, RB2.
I do raise birds also. The above is my companions.

Thanks in advance

I Love Orange Wings... I use to breed them, I kept one as a pet for a while. Orange Wings can be quite comical, clownish and such. They talk pretty well too. A bit on the noisey side, so if you are in close quarters of other neighbors... be aware. My OW's were a bit more noisey than like the Blue Fronts, so don't know really if it was just that particular pair or what. I love the looks of the OW... very pretty to me!

I don't have an Orange Wing, but since you haven't gotten many responses yet...

I've heard Orange Wings don't have as many problems with hormonal issues as the "hot 3" (Yellow Napes, Blue Fronts, and Double Yellow Heads). I don't seem to see as many of them in rescues as the other three. In fairness though, I don't think the Orange Wings were very popular in aviculture for a time so they weren't as widely sold. One thing I like about Amazons is that they have a smell to them, somewhat like the sweet musky smell of a Pionus.

I do not have an orange wing either, so didn't feel I could give accurate advice. However, during the weekend, I went to help a friend do some cage cleaning. She has a huge bird room and probably 20-30 birds of all kinds and sizes in that room. Many are friendly and fly about or roam the floor. She does have an orange wing and I was talking to him while I did the cages. He seemed to learn toward me and move closer so I thought that he might want to visit. After asking her about him (and not wanting to provoke an amazon bite) she said he is pretty shy. So I went over to him and talked to him a little. He came closer so I offered my arm and he got on and went to my shoulder. He was very sweet and just loved the attention. He let me pet him and rub his head a little.(I know that my lilac crown doesn't like hands touching him much). He would put his beak on my fingers but not apply pressure. I think they are a little more mellow than the some of the amazons. He is, however, very loud when he screams which is only a couple times like most amazons. Mine screams mostly at the afternoon period and especially at night when he wants to go to bed.

I do always talk to this bird when I am over there because she has a few other birds that are much more needy and demand her time, so of course, the less demanding ones don't always get much one on one attention and they are the ones that I tend to want to give a little attention.

I think that the amazons in general are happy to just hang out on their cage and enjoy talking with you rather than actually being held.

One of my female caiques will try to run and chase him away when he is hanging out on the railing. But she thinks she rules the roost and needs to be put in her place sometimes. You would think she might just sit back and observe, since he is so much bigger, but you know the caique personality.

I am interested in how your lory and caique get along - do they interact at all? And the R2 with the caique?
