Amazons and Mirrors?

Postby Peregrine on Sun Oct 23, 2011 11:44 am

It's getting chilly, and I want to move Coda's cage away from the window. The likeliest spot is near a 30-lb mirror that we have hanging on the wall. I don't want to move the mirror since it was a major pain to hang. I know with budgies, they get so involved with their own reflections that they ignore their people - are mirrors near Amazon's cages a good idea or a bad one, or does it not matter?

PS, Every morning when my daughter comes upstair, Coda greats her with an operatic fanfare. He's very fond of her, and it's very funny. Kind of like living with royalty.

Hey Peregrine,

Haha - Coda sounds like he's settling in fantastically! Re the mirror. I guess you should move him and see what happens! More seriously, Kobe is not the slightest bit interested in his reflection in the bathroom mirror and he's never had a mirror in his cage. Ollie's only friend for the 4 years he was in the cockatiel cage was a mirror, so he is pretty attached to it... even now, and I wouldn't dream of taking it away from him. But he doesn't spend every minute holding onto it as he used to. I can have a pretty normal interaction with him dispite the mirror. He sits on perches away from his mirror now and likes to display at me instead. I guess it's trial and error with Coda. If he hates it or becomes enamoured with it, I guess you could aways put some fabric over it for the winter months.
