Yes, she is old enough. An amazon can be mature as early as 3-5 years old, but most perfer to set up a 7+yr old.

Why do you want to set her up? If you haven't read up on breeding amazons, I would advise you to do so. You do realise that you will more than likely loose that wonderful, talking, pet of yours. Around this time of yr, all my amazons (both pets and breeders) begin to get nasty and mean. I stick it thru with my pets and realise that it will pass within a few months.

I glanced at your site, but couldn't find any pics of your hen.

i wonted to find a mate, to be able to raise babies. my wife is a stay at home mom, and loves her bird. i felt i could buy a male and raise a few babies for her and some of my family.

we don't want to sell any of the babies. but want to be able to raise some. so we don't have to pay 500 to 800 for babies. our daughter is going to college soon, and we need some babies to take care of. :D

thanks for answering my question. she is actually 8 years old this coming may. we got her egg she came out of. it's stored in a jar. kinda net hahaha it's put up somewhere, but the breeder gave it to us when we got her. we love her to death

were would you go to find good info on my breed of birds.

thanks to you and anyone else for answering in advance

I think it will cost you more to pair her up and expect babies than to just buy an $800.00 bird.

Some birds get paired up and produce instantly, but most take a while to start it off. You may pair her up, wait a few yrs with no offspring, then realize this pair will not produce. At that point, you have to find another mate to repair her, invest more time, and figure out what to do with this spare male. Pair him up (more investment) or sell this wild guy?

Breeding amazons is not for the faint of heart. I've seen the sweetest pets turn into beast you wouldn't recognize. You can't blame them, that's just nature taking over, and their commitment to their mates. If your willing to give up your pet for possible offspring, then by all means educate yourself. I do advise you to talk to someone in your area that breeds, and find out 1st hand what it is to breed.
