hi, I have decided to take a leap and get an amazon! I have a CAG I've had for over 10 years, a senegal, an alexandrine, couple of linnies and a rock pebblers parakeet. I met a 2 yr old YN at a good birdstore that I held for a while. I put him down to play and rang out some supplies and decided to go back and say bye and he ran as fast as he could over an obstacle course of perches to get to me!

I had previously decided to try to get a panama or a lilac crowned because they were gentler, but it is tough to resist that wholehearted display of affection. I am still a little torn because of him being one of the hot 3, but he was very well conditioned to step up/step down. So still debating, thinking about the hormonal times to be sure I'm ready to take this on.

In the meantime I am looking at cages. Should I get a playtop cage for an amazon or does cage top play encourage aggression? Also I have a large net set up in my family room on beams from cathedral ceiling but am thinking if he's that high I might have trouble getting him to step down or he might get aggressive? I can set up a separate play area in another room or one that isn't so high and have him play there. Is a playtop a good idea or bad? Should I be careful about height? I hate to have birds too high or low because they either get nervous from being too low or domineering from being too high.
