: I have just purchased a 2 year old female yellow collared mini macaw. I purchased it from a private owner and bought it for my wife. But I think the bird hates my wife. But seems to prefer me. It has bitten her to the point of breaking skin. Is there any way to get it to bond with my wife.

We would advise our clients to have your wife hand the bird all its favorite foods I.E. peanuts, fruits, etc. You would not hand them to the bird.

Macaws are easily bribed by food. Unless the bird was mistreated by a woman (which is possible) she should come around.

Also, please realize that the bird is two years old and has had two years with orther people. Give her time to settle down in her new home and surroundings. The thing macaws hate the most is isolation. Everything is new to this bird. Give her several months to settle in and realize you have the rest of your lives with her. There is no rushing friendships.
