I purchased Mexican Redheaded Amazon 1 week ago from the bird show in Atlanta Ga. I was told he is 5 years old and had been labeled a "breeder" but that they didn't think that to be the case. He is handleable. The only sound he makes is a wild bird sound. His beak is overgrown - it looks like it interfers with his ablility to crack nuts. He does not play with toys and from time to time will lean forwarded rest his beak on the cage bar and his whole body shakes. He is not very active and I have read that these birds are usually very active. I am wondering if something could be wrong with him. Since I can handle him I am hoping with love and the proper care I can give this bird a happy life.

I have had a blue front for 2 years now (which was 9 months when I got her) and she is a very funny, entertaining, good talker. I just am not sure what all I should do to help my new Redhead. Would it be good for him to have his beak trimmed????
